✨ Work in Progress: The Scholar’s Room


Our art team has been busy building out more of the world behind Drakonym. Here’s a first look at the WIP for the new Scholar’s Room art - filled with maps, scrolls, and arcane notes.

✨ Major Changes to Drakonym


Over the last month there have been a ton of changes going from Version 0.1 to now Version 0.6. Here are all the Major Changes that have taken place:

  • Difficulty System Reworked: Heralds can now use Targeted or Freeform Checks, allowing for optional removal of set difficulty (Dx).
  • New Mechanic – Wild Perks: Temporary, story-safe rewards that offer powerful one-off effects.
  • Hero Points Overhauled: Players now start each session with 1 Hero Point, which can also be spent to aid allies with +1d6 or a Boon.
  • Defense Slots Buffed: Players and Dragons now gain additional Defense Slots equal to half their current level.
  • Unified “Defense” terminology for both players and enemies.
  • Wound, Scar, and Death rules clarified and streamlined.
  • New and updated character artwork throughout the book.

  • 4 new Advanced Classes and 20 new Subclasses addeNew Careers:

Happy October! 🍂 It’s hard to believe it's been a month since the campaign wrapped - I am still buzzing from the incredible journey we all went on together. I've got a big update for you this month! Let’s dive in… 🐉



✨ Playtesting Begins!

The wait is over - Alpha playtesting officially starts on 10th October and will be open until the end of October! This is the first time you’ll be able to step into the full world of Drakonym and start playing. 🥳

Note: This is only the Core Rulebook & only available to Core Rulebook Backers



By the end of the week, you’ll receive an email from DriveThruRPG with a link to add the playtesting version of the rules straight to your library. From there, it’s over to you: build characters, bond with dragons, and begin testing the game that you helped bring to life.

Your voice matters here - every piece of feedback you share will have a real impact on how Drakonym grows and evolves. So, be sure to join us in the Discord to connect with fellow players, share your first sessions, and drop your thoughts in the #drakonym-playtest channel. 🐲✨

✨ Four New Classes

Four new Advanced Classes I designed have been added to the playtest roster, each blending core disciplines in unique and powerful ways. Advanced classes combine the strengths of two core archetypes, giving players access to both Grit and Mana - and with it, a broader range of tactical and storytelling possibilities. They’re ideal for players who’ve already tested the original archetypes and are ready to push their skills further!

Spellbreaker - Fighter + Mage (right)
Blends martial discipline with precise knowledge of magic, using steel to carve through wards and unravel enchantments.

Heretic - Veil + Acolyte (left)
One who stands above even the gods and defies them through force of will. They are their own path, no one shall break that.



Whisper - Mage + Veil (left)
A trickster who merges illusion magic with subterfuge - seeing sorcery as just another mask to wear.

Exemplar - Acolyte + Fighter (right)
Acolyte’s faith made flesh through martial might. They sanctify battlefields and stand as radiant champions.

We’ve got big news flying in ahead of playtesting. ✨

We’ve been hard at work behind the scenes, tweaking and improving the rules ahead of the full playtest release, and now you get the first sneak peek at those changes in action! If you check your emails, you’ll find three new treasures waiting in your DriveThruRPG library: the newly updated Journey Demo Collection, a new party play demo adventure called The Shards, and The Guide to Batesian, your first look at Akeroth’s world and lore.

✨ The Journey - Demo Collection (Updated!)



The Journey has been updated to showcase the first wave of rule improvements, giving you a chance to see how everything from combat to character creation is evolving!

In this adventure, you’ll step into the highland village of Galerend, a place poised between silence and storm. Through a series of short scenes, you’ll awaken to your destiny, make choices that define your path, and shape the kind of hero you are becoming. By the end, you’ll have built a complete Level 1 character, chosen your dragon companion, and explored the Solo Rules at the heart of Drakonym.



✨ The Shards - A Brand New Party Demo



Alongside the updated Journey comes The Shards, an entirely new adventure for group play. For the first time, you’ll see how Drakonym’s rules, dragons, and storytelling unfold around the table. You’ll create a shared story, test your bonds in moments of triumph and tension, and discover what happens when dragons take flight together.

You’ll be called to the town of Verdamere, where whispers of a shadowy corruption stir in the nearby woods. What begins as a routine patrol soon unravels into a greater mystery! Along the way, you’ll explore ancient ruins, battle corrupted beasts, and make choices that shape your legend. With structured scenes and simplified rules, the demo is easy to run whether you play it as written or adapt it for your table.




✨ The Guide to Batesian


Also waiting in your DriveThruRPG library is The Guide to Batesian, your first glimpse into the wider world of Akeroth.

Batesian is the realm’s heart, once ruled in harmony by the Circle of Lightbearers before betrayal fractured their unity and war scarred the land. Here, belief shapes reality, magic flows through conviction, and the future trembles on the edge of transformation.

Inside, you’ll uncover myths and legends, gods both great and small, the lands and cities of Batesian, its Kin, cultures, and factions, and of course, the dragons whose destinies are bound to your own.

Greetings, Dragon Riders!

What a journey. First of all, thank you. 💜 This campaign has been incredible! Your support, excitement, and trust have meant the world to us, and we can’t wait to build the next chapter with you (and your Dragons) by our side.



✨ So, what happens now?


Now that the dust has settled and pledges are locked in, BackerKit begins collecting funds. This usually takes about three weeks after the campaign ends, and once that process is complete, we’ll be ready to start sharing some of your first digital rewards - like animated backgrounds, our past titles, etc. (depending on what pledge level and add-ons you chose)! ✨



✨ When does playtesting start?


We know this is the part many of you are most excited for! Right now, we’re deep in shaping the world, writing prompts, and refining mechanics. Once we have a beta version ready, you’ll be the first to explore it. 

You’ll get to test the systems, share your thoughts, and directly influence how Drakonym grows. Your feedback will shape the heart of the game - your voice genuinely matters here. We’ll send out a dedicated update as soon as playtesting opens, so you won’t miss your chance to jump in.



✨ In The Meantime…


While we’re busy behind the scenes getting the first playtesting content ready for you, there’s already plenty for you to sink your teeth into!


We’re giving every backer a free mini-game that Ash has written! Battle at Ironmarch is a fast 2-player tactical duel on an 8×8 board, recreating the training battles of Akeroth’s past. Quick to learn, but full of clever moves and counter-moves.

We’ll be running some exclusive pre-beta Drakonym playtests this weekend at Tabletop Scotland! 🎲🐉
📅 Saturday & Sunday
🕘 9 am - 4 pm

Come book a slot and try out the core rules in a fast-paced, cinematic intro adventure. You’ll be using premade characters and making your very first bonds with dragons.

Each session lasts 1-1.5 hours and is designed for 3-5 players.

The ward-bells of Greymere toll across the cliffs of the Shattered Pass. Crystal veins are splitting the rock, and wolves glittering with shards stalk the heights. As defenders of the pass, you’ll battle shard-sick beasts, uncover the corruption in the stone, and witness a wyrmling’s first struggle to be born.
